After deliberating less than two days, a Wayne County Circuit Court jury found Theodore Wafer guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of Renisha McBride, 19, WWJ reported.

Wafer never denied fatally shooting McBride, but testified that he did so out of fear for his life when she came knocking at his front door in Dearborn Heights.

Sentencing is Aug. 21.

The Free Press reports that after the verdict, Monica McBride, Renisha's mother, praised the prosecution.

"Her life mattered and we showed that," she said about her daughter.

Asked what he would say to the jury, Renisha's father, Walter Simmons said: "Thank you, thank you."

Deadline Detroit readers comment on Facebook:

John Muster: Two lives and two families shattered because of a gun.

Brian Powers: I'd say the jury got this one right.

Joe Kendra: Not premeditated, but certainly MURDER !

Kenny Cremen:  Sad. I think they got it wrong. But we don't see everything the jury sees so who knows.

Jamon Jordan: GREAT JOB JURY!! You did not fall for his ever-changing story!
