Ex-Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers, who had been a divisive figure on council, is being pretty low key these days, working at Neighborhood Legal Services.

On Wednesday, Conyers got a little break.

U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn signed papers releasing her eight months early from probation, or what's referred to in the federal system as supervised release, Robert Snell of the Detroit News reports.

Conyers was released from prison in 2012 after serving 37 months. She pleaded guilty to accepting at least a $6,000 bribe for her deciding vote on the 2007 Synagro Technologies Inc. sludge contract, according to the News.

The News reports that defense lawyer Steve Fishman said his motion for Conyers’ release is common in federal court.
