Restaurants continue to pop up in downtown Detroit.

The latest: Athens Souvlaki on Fort Street just west of Griswold inside the Penobscot Building.

The restaurant, which opened last week, has taken over retail space in the Penobscot that included a travel agency. It  has a bar and serves up traditional Greek food including souvlaki, braised lamb shank, lamb chops, spinach pie, stuffed grape leaves, moussaka, pastitsio,  and Greek salads. It also serves hamburgers and homemade pita.

One of the owners, George Antonopoulos, said they've done a soft launch and for now will open at 11 a.m. and stay open until 8:30 or 9 p.m. until it gets busier.

The owners have a second location is on 11 Mile Road in Southfield.
