Ferndale Police Chief Timothy D. Collins is upset over a prank three officers played that involved a dog, WDIV reports.
Hank Winchester of WDIV reports that it all began when a resident brought in a stray dog to the police station. A police dispatcher initially expressed interest in adopting the dog, but then changed his mind.
So, Winchester reports, a lieutenant and two officers decided to play a prank. One officer who was on duty drove the dog to a Southfield home where they thought the dispatcher was staying with his girlfriend.
The officer tied the dog to the front door.
One problem was that it was the wrong house. A resident thought someone was breaking in and called Southfield Police.
An investigation is under way and the department is expects to discipline the officers, Winchester reports.
The dog is being held at the animal control shelter in Southfield.
Lt Williams Wilson, a spokesman for the Ferndale Police, calls the the prank infantile and says it wasted resources. There's "no excuse whatsoever" for their conduct, he adds.
