Jayru Campbell Makes Quick Court Appearance, Then Heads Back to Jail

September 16, 2014, 11:32 AM

Jayru Campbell, the Cass Tech football player who has become a household name locally for all the wrong reasons, was arraigned on a probation violation charge Tuesday, and then remanded back to jail, WXYZ reports.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenny entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Campbell, 17,  who appeared in court wearing a dark green prison jumpsuit. A preliminary examination hearing is set for Sept. 25 for the assault charges. A hearing on the probation violation is set for the following day.

Campbell was arrested on Friday, just hours after he'd been released from jail where he served time for body slamming a school security officer in May. The latest arrest would likely violate his probation.

On Friday, he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend at Cass Tech. Authorities allege that Campbell grabbed his girlfriend's cell phone and began reading text messages. At some point, he became visibly angry and allegedly assaulted her. She did not require medical attention.

He has been charged with unarmed robbery, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and misdemeanor domestic violence assault and battery.
