Darrell Dawsey, a columnist for Deadline Detroit, said Friday that he has inked a deal with publisher HarperCollins to  write the memoirs of legendary hip-hop artist DMC.

"It will be a revealing memoir, the first true memoir of the hip-hop era," Dawsey says. He said the book is expected to be completed by next February and released in the spring.

The working title is "Ten Reasons Not to Commit Suicide."

Dawsey has worked for the past two month with DMC, whose real name is Daryl Matthews McDaniels.

On his Facebook page on Friday, Dawsey wrote:

Been traveling the country interviewing him for what's shaping up to be an incredibly revealing project. Just took this picture down here in Atlanta a few minutes ago--with me, D and the irrepressible Biz Markie -- as D prepares to rock a show at Piedmont Park..."There it is!!"

On Monday, Dawsey begins his new job as communications director for the Michigan ACLU. He plans to continue writing occasional columns for Deadline Detroit.
