Who Couldn't Use a Historic Trolley Car or Garbage Truck?

October 24, 2014, 6:07 AM by  Allan Lengel

Let's face it, who couldn't use 115 automated side load garbage trucks,  8 rear load garbage trucks,  79 transit buses and historic trolley cars,  24 aerial bucket lift trucks and 17 grapple trucks?

In all, the city of Detroit in November is auctioning off more than 450 surplus vehicles it no longer needs. It hopes to sell off the vehicles to  private contractors or other municipalities.

“Many of these vehicles are in very good working order and have a lot of life left in them,” Gary Brown, City of Detroit Chief Operating Officer, said in a press release.

Detroit ran eight, century-old rail cars from 1975 to 2003 on tracks along Washington Boulevard. There are three cars up for auction.

The Detroit News reported back in 203 that the trolley cars had cost passengers 50 cents to ride,  but the city about $100 per rider.
