They Hear About Detroit's Comeback in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing

Descriptions of "Pure Michigan" visitor attractions are being shared in China, thanks to a Mandarin language website created by state tourism boosters.

"The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has launched a Travel Michigan website in Chinese: TravelMichigan.cn," Emily Lawler writes at MLive.

Gov. Rick Snyder and Dave Lorenz, manager of Travel Michigan, talk about it during a current business development trip to that country, she adds.

"The Great Lakes is a huge selling point because of the wonderful shoreline we have, so I talk about Sleeping Bear Dunes and Mackinac Island as two great opportunities. . . .

"What we’re working on is getting them for their second or third trip” [to America].

A Detroit-focused section of the new site mentions the emergence from bankruptcy, the DIA and "four world-class porfessional sports teams.".

The outreach also includes brochures and a video in Mandarin.
