Berlin Techno Club Owner Tours Detroit Plant, Sees Lots of Potential

November 28, 2014, 6:43 AM

Is it really possible that the owner of a famous Berlin techno music club will convert an abandoned auto body factory near Midtown in Detroit into a techno nightclub?

JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press reports that Dimitri Hegerman, 60, took a tour of Detroit's Fisher Body Plant No. 21 this week for the first time.

"I still think it could be done," Hegemann said after his Wednesday tour, the Freep reported.. "The place fulfills my expectations."

The Freep writes that Hegermann sees potential for a nonprofit arts venue and techno nightclub with authentic industrial grit — and possibly a co-working space, youth hostel and a pop-up restaurant.

The building  is owned by the City of Detroit and situated along Piquette at 6051 Hastings St., near the interchange of I-94 and I-75 and about a mile from New Center, the Freep writes.

Deadline Detroit readers read about Hegermann's vision in an Oct. 14 story from the Wall Street Journal.
