Some local Catholic students are hoping that the written word has some power.

Patricia Montemourri of the Detroit Free Press reports that students sent Pope Francis letters inviting him to stop in Detroit next year during his tour of the U.S. Now, it's all about faith.

The Freep reports that Rev. Thomas Rosica, the president of Windsor's Assumption University who also works as a Vatican spokesman, wrote in an email to the paper saying:

"Letters given personally to pope yesterday. A wonderful meeting with him. He was expecting them. That is all I can say!"

Montermurri writes:

The letter-writing campaign to invite Pope Francis to visit Detroit began last spring by students at Detroit's Cristo Rey High School. They spoke to other students at Detroit's Gesu, Holy Redeemer and Holy Trinity Catholic grade schools, who wrote letters. Then the campaign spread to other Detroit-area Catholic schools, where students wrote letters and made videos asking Francis to stop in Detroit when he visits the U.S. in September 2015.
