Investigators looking into the  shooting of four teenagers on Monday near the Grosse Pointe Park border, now believe that a gunman jumped out of a car and tried to rob the teens who were parked and smoking pot, a source tells Deadline Detroit.

But the teens drove off, and that's when the gunman opened fire, the source said.

One teen, Paige Stalker, 16, a student at the University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods, died. Three others were wounded.

Investigators are looking into two robberies in Grosse Pointe in November to determine if there's any link.

There was at least one other person in the robbery.

Police on Tuesday initially said that the the shooting was not random, and that the teens were targeted. But after working the case more, the theory of the shooting changed.

No one could have written the script this way for the 16-year-old Stalker, an all A-student.

"It's really a tough time," University Liggett junior Alexander Minanov, 16, who went to school with Paige since freshman year, told the Free Press. "It was just so shocking. I've been talking to a bunch of my classmates and everybody is shocked and still a little in denial."

Minanov added: "It's just really sad that instead of planning for Christmas, the family has to plan for a funeral."
About 60 people gathered in front of the Grosse Pointe Woods City Hall for a vigil for Paige and the other victims, the Detroit Free Press reports.
