January 10, 2015, 10:00 AM

This newly posted video captures the horrifying early moments of Friday's deadly chain-reaction crash on I-94 late Friday morning.

The footage, shot on a camera phone by an unidentified witness, shows truckers and other drivers moving at highway speed as they suddenly encounter a few crashed trucks blocking the interstate.

A YouTube user named Paul Rosenfeld posted the nearly two-minute clip, which he says isn't shot by him. It had been played more than 687,000 times by Saturday night.

An AP dispatch at CNN's site tells why the freeway remains shut Saturday morning in both directions between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek:

Police said almost 200 cars and trucks were involved in the chain-reaction crash. Video from a witness showed cars and trucks slamming into the stalled wrecks and people running from their vehicles.

On the tape, panicked people can be heard yelling, "Get out of your vehicle."

Authorities said one person was killed in the accident, a 57-year-old truck driver from Canada, and almost two dozen more were injured, including two firefighters who were working at the scene.

A survivor, Micah Stanislawski, tells WMMT of Battle Creek:

"Right in front of me, the trucks started to go crazy. You couldn't see a single thing at the time of all the accidents. I was able to pull off and just watch semi after semi and semi and semi hit each other and cars hit each other. I mean people were going full speed ahead."

Friday morning article:

Winter flexed its muscles Friday, coating roads with snow, and creating hazardous and deadly driving conditions around the state.

Roughly 123 vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash that left at least one dead and 23 injured on I-94 between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek late Friday morning, The Detroit News and others report.

And south of Ann Arbor, one person died following a 50-vehicle pileup with two jackknifed semi trucks, the Detroit Free Press reports. Southbound U.S. 23 south of Ann Arbor was closed in the afternoon.

Winter clearly is here in full force.
