Thrillist's '23 Worst Decisions You Can Make in Detroit'

January 15, 2015, 5:28 PM

Skip Green Dot Stables if in a rush to sit.

We've avoided the rookie errors in a new online list, or won't admit otherwise. You're probably also too savvy to stumble like an urban rube, or to confess.

So this summary of Thrillist's guide to Detroit missteps is summarized and linked to just for amusement and passing along to pals relocating or visitng from Brooklyn, Buffalo or Boston.

The list of nearly two dozen ways to screw up in Detroit is by Jeff Waraniak, associate editor at Hour Media and a Thrillist contributor since fall 2013 (months after he graduated from UM).

Don't call in to spout utter nonsense.

Most are whimsical, one is outdated (don't vote for Kwame) and some are learned the hard way:

► Don't split a Bucharest shawarma.

► Don't shop at Whole Foods right after work.

► Don't order a vodka tonic at Sugar House in Corktown.

► Don't plan to sit right away at Green Dot Stables.

► Don't call a 97.1 host with a garbage comment.

► Don't say you're a Detroiter if you're a suburbanite.

► Don't assume parking at a busted meter means no ticket or no fine.
