Once again, vocal artist Anita Baker is being accused of not paying her bills.
Elisha Anderson of the Detroit Free Press writes that MGM Restoration of Troy contends Baker owes the company more than $39,000 for work done in Grosse Pointe last year, according to the lawsuit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court Thursday.
The paper reports that Baker has paid only $7,000 for work performed for a flooding issue at her home.
Akiva Goldman, Baker's attorney in two other pending cases in Wayne County Circuit Court, said Baker hasn't lived in Michigan for years. He said people serve lawsuits at her home in the state, she doesn't receive them and they get default judgments, the Freep reports. He said he was not aware of the MGM suit.
The Freep reports that attorney Jamal Hamood said that Baker owes her $150,000 for legal and corporate services.
