Mitt Romney, who told us during the 2012 presidential campaign how much he liked our trees in Michigan, probably won't bother to tell us that in 2016.

Why?

Well, he's apparently decided not to run for president.

Philip Rucker and Dan Balz of the Washington Post report that Romney, a Michigan native who attended Crankbrook, told supporters Friday that he won't run for president in 2016.

“After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee,” Romney said in a statement he read to supporters on a conference call Friday morning.

Romney said that he had enough support from potential donors to be “more than competitive,”  the Post reported.

Back in the 2012 campaign, Romney did some serious sucking up to the Michigan voters.

In one speech, he said:

"A little history: I was born and raised here. I love this state. It seems right here. The trees are the right height. I like seeing the lakes. I love the lakes. Just something very special here. The Great Lakes but also all the little inland lakes that dot the parts of Michigan. I love cars. I grew up totally in love with cars."
