Former U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio -- a Tea Party kind of guy is broke.
Detroit New reporters David Shepardson and Robert Snell report that Bentivolio, and his congressional committee filed for bankruptcy protection, listing nearly $300,000 in unpaid bills.
His bankruptcy filing on Monday stated that Bentivolio had $100 in cash and $200 in a savings account, and that he owes the law firm Dickinson Wright almost $44,000. He also has nearly $1,800 in unpaid rent for his D.C. apartment.
Bentivolio lost in his bid last year for re-election.
