A 3,100-square-foot restaurant, Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails, is slated to open at the end next month in Midtown.

It's the latest venture from Oakland Art Novelty Co. of Ferndaler, owned by Sandy Levine, 38, and Dexter-based Terry B's executive chef Doug Hewitt Jr., 34, writes Laura Cassar of Crain's. The 100-seat restaurant is at 15 E. Kirby.

That concept is farm-to-table freshness, a freshness dictated in part by a small kitchen with little storage and no walk-in freezer. Plates will be finished outside of the kitchen in the working bar area.

Two-thirds of the 20 bar seats will be what Levine described as "kitchen seating," where customers can interact with the executive chef. "Fortunately, I like people," Hewitt said. It will be his first time working in a semi-open kitchen.
