Despite opposition from citizens and pensioners, the Detroit Elected Officials Compensation Commission is recommending a 2.5 percent raise for the city council and city clerk, beginning in July next year, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Joe Guillen of the Detroit Free Press reports that the commission voted unanimously on Monday night to pass a resolution giving the green light for the raises.
The Free Press reports that the council can vote on the recommended changes for them to take effect or it can, with a two-thirds majority vote, reject the commission's recommendation. If the council does not act, the changes would take effect.
The wimpiest path would be for the council not to vote on the matter.
