It's the end of the line for Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin, the university’s first female president, who had her successes, but also generated unwanted attention for alcohol consumption.

Martin said Tuesday that she'll resign from her $340,000-a-year job at the end of her contract in July, Kim Kozlowski of The Detroit News reports.

Martin will return to the accounting and finance faculty in 2016, the News reports. She was named president in 2008.

Achievements include enrollment gains and successful fundraising, Kozlowski writes, but she clashed with the Board of Regents -- which told her to address her her alcohol consumption in public or risk losing her job.

The threat came in a letter that mentioned inappropriate behavior — including alcohol use and profanity — involving an alumnus in April 2012 in Washington, D.C., and made reference to other incidents.
