Construction Begins in Corktown for Shipping Container Residences

Could this be the future?

Construction began this week on a three-story model unit on Trumbull in the Corktown neighborhood using empty shipping containers, John Gallagher of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The project is being built by a firm called Three Squared.

It's the first of several larger shipping-container projects planned for the district, Gallagher writes.

Shipping containers have become schools and housing in Europe, he adds..
