Ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick may be long gone from Detroit, serving his 28 year prison sentence in Oklahoma, but the feds back home aren't done going after him.
The Internal Revenue Service is investigating the Kilpatricks' real estate deals and is trying to track down everyone who gave money to Kilpatrick from 1992 to 2008 when he served as mayor, Robert Snell reports for The Detroit News.
Snell reports that the info was contained in a federal court filing late Monday, and that Kilpatrick's lawyer, Harold Gurewitz, is fighting an IRS summons seeking the bank and real estate records.
Gurewitz says in a court filing that producing the records would violate attorney-client privilege, but also notes that the U.S. Attorney's Office likely has those records from the probe into Kilpatrick.
