New Hudson Inn Represents Michigan on a Distinguished Businesses List

April 22, 2015, 2:28 PM

"Great food, cold beer and good people” is how the New Hudson Inn describes itself. The funky bar on a stretch of West Grand River in Oakland County also has a much more notable distinction.

It's Michigan's oldest operating business, dating back to 1831. That lands it on a new national list of 50 such survivors -- one per state.

The longevity list is compiled by a site called Supercompresssor, part of the Vice Media network that also includes Thrillist. Here's what it says about the hangout in Lyon Township: .

Established four years before Michigan became a state, New Hudson’s been serving drinks to patrons since they were showing up in stagecoaches.

Something tells us the dive bar vibe and the shiny new stripper pole on the dance floor are recent (and appreciated) additions.

The 184-year-old business, open seven days a week, serves burgers, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and entertainment Tuesday throiugh Saturday.
