1. Michigan Taste Fest -- Friday, 6-10 p.m.,  Price: $10

Plenty beer, wine and food, featuring Michigan vendors and their products. There will also be a silent auction, raffle and 50/50. There will be virtual golfing stalls, putting, pool, video games, live music & dancing. Proceeds go to the  Walled Lake Central High School Marching Band to help get them get to New York City to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

2. Films and Plays

The Detroit Film Theater (DIA): 5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit. Friday, 7 p.m.

Movie: The Yellow Ticket: A silent film about sacrifice when a women hides her Jewish identity in order to attend medical school, showing how with willpower and determination, anything is possible. 

The Redford Theater: 17360 Lahser, Detroit. Salurday, 7 p.m.

Play:  No Second Chance. Described as "the highly anticipated stage play" based on the novel "Drug Lords."  If anything, it's worth just soaking up the ambiance of the theater.  Sat., 7 p.m.

3.Comedy

Comedian Lewis Black: Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward Avenue, Detroit:  Saturday, 8 p.m.

 The rant is due part deux  Yes, the man still has a rant and something to say.

Comedian Dave Chappelle: The Filmore Detroit, 2115 Woowdward Avenue, Detroit: Friday, 7 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. 

The Detroit News writes of his Thursday performance in Detroit: "Dave Chappelle does what Dave Chappelle wants. Right now he wants to be funny, which is good news for the rest of us."

4. Comedysportz, 648 E. 9 Mile Road, Ferndale, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

 

Improvisational comedy. Two comedy teams compete head-to-head to get the most points. The audience gets to choose who the ultimate winner is while the referee calls out the fouls.

5. Penguicon 2015 -- Westin Hotel, 1500 Town Center, Southfield: Friday-Sunday

A 3-day technical convention and social gathering where everyone learns from others about hacking, building sci-fi universes, soldering, painting miniatures, gaming, coding, and much more. Enjoy dressing up, free food and beer in the hospitality suite and some room parties. Let your inner geek shine this weekend.
