Car dealer Art Moran has died at age 89.

Alisa Priddle of the Detroit Free Press reports that Moran founded Art Moran Pontiac-GMC,  died Wednesday. His funeral was Friday morning.

Moran, a Cass Tech High School, joined the Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Lexington during World War II, the Free press reports.

He worked at Clohecy Pontiac and eventually became a partner.  He founded Art Moran Pontiac-GMC in 1973.

The Freep writes:

The man who had been in the car business almost seven decades visited the Southfield dealership bearing his name last week for the last time before succumbing to respiratory failure.

His son Tom Moran, who runs Art Moran Buick GMC Mitsubishi with two of his sisters, said his father, who lived in Troy, continued to come into the dealership once a week and would sit in the waiting room and talk to customers and employees. He was an avid reader who kept up on news of the industry.
