Saturday, 3:18 p.m.: The Tigers now expect Miguel Cabrera to be out about six weeks, according to the Detroit Free Press, MLIve and other follow-up.reports on his Friday night calf injury.

"When you lose the best hitter on the planet it's a huge blow," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus says. "We're going to have to find a way to get it down without him, at least for the next month and a half or so. We still have a very good offense."

Original article, Saturday morning:

Jason Beck of MLB.com put it best in a story on the Tigers' site:

The Tigers stopped their midseason stumble for at least a night with Friday's 8-6 win over the Blue Jays. But they now have to limp to the All-Star break without Miguel Cabrera.

Detroit placed the slugging first-baseman on the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to the left calf strain he suffered trying to get a running start off first base.

The season has been shaky enough, between a sorry-looking bullpen and Tigers bats that go silent far too often.

If Cabrera is gone for more than 15 days or hobbles through the rest of the season, the Tigers can forget about post-season play.

Regardless of Cabrera, whether he's healthy or not,  the reliever problem could sink the Tigers this year.

As I posted on Facebook Friday night after the attending the game: "Some of the Tigers starters are like artists, who paint masterpieces. Most of the Tigers relievers are like little kids who come along and take crayons and scribble over the canvas and destroy the masterpieces."
