Ok, so world-renowned street artist Shepard Fairey is not the most menacing criminal in the world. In most people's eyes, he's not even a criminal.
But Detroit authorities are putting energy into making sure this guy is brought to justice.
His alleged crime: Fairey, who was recently commissioned to do a giant mural on the former Compuware Building in downtown Detroit is accused of of causing about $9,000 in damage by illegally painting on nine properties while visiting Detroit in May. He reportedly used wheatpaste, which dissolves.
Ann Zaniewski of the Detroit Free Press reports that he is expected to turn himself into Detroit authorities today. Fairey flew in from Los Angeles on Monday evening.
"He is expected to turn himself in," John Roach, a spokesman for Mayor Mike Duggan's office, told the Free Press late Monday. "I don't have any details, but our law department has spoken with Mr. Fairey's representatives."
