Once again, a strike has been averted.

The UAW and Fiat Chrysler once again reached a tentative contract agreement Wednesday night at the midnight strike deadline, averting a work stoppage that could have sent up to 40,000 unionized workers off the job, Automotive News reports. UAW members had just rejected the first tentative agreement. Some said that management should never have brought the first agreement up for a vote because it was obviously inadequate.

Larry P. Vellequette of Automotive News  reports that the union issued a statement saying the bargaining committee "secured significant gains" in the new agreement. Details weren’t disclosed.

“We heard from our members, and went back to FCA to strengthen their contract,” UAW President Dennis Williams said in the statement.

“We’ve reached a proposed Tentative Agreement that I believe addresses our members’ principal concerns about their jobs and their futures. We have made real gains and I look forward to a full discussion of the terms with our membership.”
