As the Detroit Red Wings' season kicks off at home, fans will see Joe Louis Arena upgrades -- including a mobile ticketing program, new LED lighting for the scoreboard and free Wi-Fi for fans, DBusiness reports..

“As we celebrate our final two seasons at The Joe and prepare for an exciting new chapter in the Detroit Events Center, we’re always looking for new ways to improve and show our fans how much we appreciate their continued loyalty,” says Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Olympia Entertainment.

The Joe is also unveiling a new concession stand, Red Hot Wings, featuring buffalo-style wings, boneless wings, chicken tender and French fries, according to Adrienne Roberts of DBusiness.

Good to shake up the food selection a little, but truth be told, the Joe probably has the worst food offerings of all the major league sporting venues locally. It could use some more healthier options, that is, unless your goal is show your arteries who is boss.

As for the tickets, fans will be able to access and transfer their tickets wirelessly on their smartphone, DBusiness reports.

Fans can also present their mobile phone to ticket-takers to scan at entrances.

The Red Wings are expected to play in the new arena in 2017.
