Angry Wild Turkey Scares Folks at Bloomfield Hills Office Complex

November 25, 2015, 2:56 PM

Not all turkeys end up bringing joy at the Thanksgiving table.

George Hunter of The Detroit News reports that about 10 wild turkeys have taken up residence in the Governor’s Place complex at Woodward and Long Lake and one of them, tenants say, is very aggressive and is annoying, and in some cases, scaring folks.

“We’ve gotten complaints that people have been chased by an aggressive turkey,” Shari Miotto, customer service representative for the complex’s management firm, Beachum & Roeser, told the News.

Lynn Rosenthal describes running into her office, the turkey nipping at her heels. “There’s one turkey who terrorizes me,” she says. “He’s really mean, and he’s not afraid of anything. I have to sneak into the building because if he sees me, he chases me.”

The landlord contacted the Michigan Department of Natural Resource, which said it does not get rid of wild turkeys. But the DNR offers this advice: Show the turkeys who is boss:

"Your best bet . . . is to begin a program of gentle hazing, where you re-establish your dominance over the turkeys. You can chase the birds, clap your hand or make other loud noises, open an umbrella near them, squirt them with water — really anything that might scare them off.”
