February 10, 2016, 7:46 AM

Back in the day, Tigers pitcher Denny McLain was a winner, winning 31 games during the 1968 season.

Since he left baseball, he hasn't been such a winner, going to prison twice and getting tied up in questionable business activities.
Now, chalk up another loss for baseball's winningest pitcher.

The Detroit Free Press reports that McLain lost a bid Tuesday to for a new trial in a civil case involving a former employee who sued him for back pay.

The paper reports that McLain's attorney Barry Powers of Bloomfield Hills argued for the new trial because McLain was unable to attend the July 2014 trial due to a severe foot injury.

But Livingston County Circuit Judge Theresa Brennan rejected that motion, sayiing the only evidence Powers evidence at the time of the trial was a note that lacked any indication it came from a doctor's office, the Free Press wrote.

The ruling let stand orders that McLain pay former employee Joe Dobson $1,910 in wages for a trade-show marketing sales job that lasted from October to November 2014 and he and Powers pay slightly more than $7,025 to cover Dobson's attorney fees.
