Detropia Wins Traverse City Film Festival Special Jury Prize

In a move that will likely ensure the Traverse City Film Festival never secures a Kresge Foundation grant, the festival awarded Detropia its Special Jury Prize. The judges called the film "a beautiful poem-like documentary." In May, Curbed Detroit reported that a group of 25 "important Detroiters" from the ranks of Kresge and DEGC screened Detropia and they weren't impressed--probably because filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady didn't limit their focus to Live Midtown. 

Detropia is making the rounds on the festival circuit and will be released independently in Detroit and 20 other cities next month -- JTW
