Our central business district's public gallery gains fresh flair from this newly completed wall art by New York twins Davide and Raoul Perre.

Their mordern graphic at One Campus Martius complements one on the skyscraper's north side by Los Angeles street artist Shepard Fairey, finished last May.

Both works are 184 feet tall and 60 feet wide. They were were commissioned by Bedrock Detroit, Meridian Health and the downtown Library Street Collective gallery.

Bedrock and Meridian own One Campus Martius, formerly known as the Compuware building.

"Love the attention to detail and the 3D cubes that match the building," tweets Robin Schwartz, director of public relations for Bedrock, with the photo above. The mural took less than two weeks to create.

Detroit's outdoor art gallery is about to expand, Corey Williams reports for the Associated Press:

A giant mural is planned for One Campus Martius as downtown Detroit adds to its reputation as an urban art destination.

New York artists and twins Davide and Raoul Perre have been commissioned to do the 184-foot-tall by 60-foot-wide mural on the office building and adjacent to another massive mural created last May by street artist Shepard Fairey. , , ,

"Balancing Act" is the mural's title. Depending on the weather, the identical twins could start work on it in a few days.

It is expected to take seven to nine days to complete and will mostly be done in the artists' signature red, black and white color scheme.

Raoul and Davide Perre have done smaller projects in Detroit, starting early last decade.

Their creativity will be on a building owned by Bedrock Real Estate Services and Meridian Health. Its the Quicken Loans headquarters.

Nearby are murals at the Z Parking Garage and other commercial sites -- more than 30 within just a one-block radius, project organizers tell Williams.

Bedrock, the Library Street Collective gallery and Meridian are sponsoring the mural at an undisclosed cost, Williams writes. A show at Library Street will follow its completion.

One Campus Martius is owned by Bedrock Detroit and Meridian Health and is headquarters for businessman Dan Gilbert's Quicke

"The people I know [in New York] all hear about what's going on in Detroit . . . how things are developing," Davide Perre told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Saturday.

"I'm just very happy that Detroit is taking that direction again," he added. "I've seen it more than 10 years ago and how it's looking now. There are certain people willing to invest back in Detroit." . . .

The brothers are known in the graffiti-art world as "How and Nosm." They were born in Spain and raised in Germany, but now call New York City home.

They have done smaller projects in Detroit, starting around 2002 or 2003, Davide Perre said.

At their website, the brothers' bio says:

The twins first encountered graffiti as young teenagers. Skateboarding and tagging were the influences until the aerosol can was first introduced and the range of colors and options seemed endless. The traditional letterform art of graffiti writing was learned and they earned their stripes painting names on trains together.

They're members of a Bronx-based mural group called TATS CRU, and discuss their work in this 2009 video:
