Video: Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff: Feds Want Demolition Documents Before They Disappear

May 03, 2016, 7:45 AM

Last week, an investigation headed by the federal Office of the Special Inspector for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or SIGTARP, subpoenaed records of the Detroit auditor general regarding the use of federal funds for the city's aggressive demolition program, the Free Press reported.

The Detroit Land Bank Authority says it welcomes the probe and is cooperating. It points out that a state audit found no improprieties.

Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff first reported on skyrocketing costs for demolitions and raised questions about the way contracts have been doled out.

On Monday, he said on the air:

"The feds are looking for everything.  After we did our report, Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones asked for an audit of the city. That's inside city hall.  The feds want to get their hands on this stuff before it disappears.

"According to the auditors general's report and the subpoena. This is very convoluted, undocumented relationships between city departments and hard to figure out.

"(They are looking for) what's the validity of contracts; who is meeting with whom; who got special treatment; on and on. Stuff we have been living through, a nightmare in the city for eight years."
