Former Pistons player and Michigan State basketball star Mateen Cleaves faces sexual assault charges stemming from Sept. 15 motel incident in Genesee County.

But a lawsuit raises questions about the case.

A Mundy Township police officer is suing the municipality and its police department, Jennifer Chambers reports in The Detroit News. The lawman claims he was pressured  to portray Cleaves as guilty although he believed he was not.

Officer Brian Ogle alleges that he was disciplined after he reported violations of state law by the township and police department regarding the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, which is handling the Cleaves investigation. The prosecutor's office declined comment.

Ogle’s attorney, Dean Yeotis, said Tuesday his client was the first officer on the scene and interviewed the alleged victim, according to The News.

“He concluded there had not been a crime committed. And the work environment after that was full of tension, and it got to the point that he got suspended for two days,” Yeotis said.
