Over this past weekend, 300 motorists paraded through Detroit to protest violence in the city. On the very same weekend, at least 12 people were shot, one fatally, the Detroit News reports.

Despite the city's efforts to reach out to the community and churches for help, violence in Detroit continues at unacceptable rates.

Of the total shot this weekend, five were teenagers, James Dickson of the Detroit News reports. Two of those teens were girls. One of those girls, 15, was shot on her porch.

While the pervasive narrative in the media is about Detroit's comeback and the new restaurants and businesses in downtown, Midtown and Corktown, the violence is just a reminder that city hall or anyone else in the city can declare "Mission Accomplished."
