When her baby was killed in an accident nine years ago,  Shamayim Harris looked around Highland Park, a city with no streetlights, no parks, no libraries. No place to be a child, Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff says in a report::

She bought a rundown house on Avalon Street. And then she bought the lot next door and made a park. She erected a solar street lamp. She mowed and cleared the lots on Avalon Street. She got abandoned houses torn down. Soon, the children came to camp overnight. Musicians came to play. And her dream began to grow.
