The car that Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson was a passenger in when it was involved in a traffic crash earlier this month was speeding when the incident occurred, according to a report released Monday by Auburn Hills police.

According to the Free Press, vehicle data showed the Chrysler 300 was traveling 54 m.p.h. in a 45-m.p.h. zone less than a second before it collided Aug. 10 with a Volkswagen Passat at Walton and Opdyke.

Volkswagen driver Anthony Prainito, 31, of Royal Oak has pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanor counts of a moving violation causing serious impairment of bodily function. In a statement to police included in the report, Prainito said, "All I know is the car came out of nowhere."

Neither the driver, retires state trooper James Cram, nor Patterson were wearing seat belts. Both remain hospitalized.
