Update, 10 a.m. Thursday: The Caucus Club at 150 W.  Congress will open at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The restaurant issues a statement:

The new Caucus Club menu, under the direction of Executive Chef Rick Hussey, are those of a New York steakhouse, with a nod to the international flair served in the heyday of the original restaurant.

Dry-aged steaks, including the rarely seen tomahawk (rib eye with long bone) will shine, along with dishes such as mint pesto lamb chops and prime rib.

The finest seafood will be offered, including scallops, pan-seared halibut and lake perch and there will be daily specials. At lunch, a cheese-stuffed burger will pay homage to a dish served at the original Caucus Club. Bread will be baked freshly daily and desserts will include seasonal panna cotta, homemade cheesecakes, tiramisu, and crème brulee.

At the bar will be the updated 1950s Caucus Club signature drink, the Bullshot, which took Detroit, quickly followed by the West Coast and then the East Coast, by storm. While the original cocktail (essentially a Bloody Mary with beef broth instead of tomato juice), contained vodka, the New Bullshot created by Bar Manager Mike Kreger, contains homemade beef stock and a special Italian gin. Kreger wanted the cocktail, with its historic roots, to have a classic cocktail base.

Original article Monday:

The outdoor sign for the legendary Caucus Club restaurant on Congress in downtown Detroit was up in March, and owner George Sboukis had hoped for an opening later that month.

But countless delays involving one thing or another, including inspections, kept the restaurant from opening. Sboukis repeatedly expressed frustration, not to mention that he loses money while shut.

Now, it may happen.

The restaurant, which closed in 2012, and has since been completely renovated, could open this weekend, reports Mark Kurlyandchik of the Detroit Free Press.
