Organizers of the upcoming Gratiot Cruise in Clinton Township on Aug. 6 had really hoped to land Eminem as the grand marshal. This year marks the 15th anniversary.
The famous rapper has a home in Clinton Township. But with a new CD and tour reportedly in the works, he had to decline the offer, Clinton Township Supervisor Robert Cannon tells Mitch Hotts of the Macomb Daily.
Instead, as a consolation prize, the grand marshalls are Macomb County Executive an his wife, Tracie.
“Eminem couldn’t accommodate the cruise date, but we were told to ask again,” Cannon told the paper. “He’s a really big celebrity, but Mark Hackel is a pretty big celebrity himself, along with his wife. We’re thrilled to have them as part of our 2017 cruise.”
Yes, Hackel is a big name in the county. But he's no Eminem.
“I realize Eminem was the first choice, but how can you say no to this,” Hackel says. “I’m OK with that. It’s hard for him to come back home, because if he does one thing, he gets inundated with requests for more.”
