Election winners sometimes come under scrutiny for having a transition team appointee with a questionable past or ties.

In this case, Attorney General-elect Dana Nessel is the focus of a story in the Detroit Free Press, which points out that one member of her transition team has a history of domestic violence accusations from women.

Dearborn Councilman Michael Sareini, 46, has been arrested and jailed for domestic violence complaints in the past. Three women in his family say he assaulted or harassed them in six incidents, according to police and court records reviewed by Niraj Warikoo of the Detroit Free Press, who reports:

The Free Press first reported on Sareini's history of alleged violence against women in 2013 when he was running for City Council. He won, was re-elected in 2017 and is now Council President Pro Tem.

In addition to the police and court records reviewed in 2013, the Free Press obtained records last month that detail a Personal Protection Order (PPO) issued against Sareini after a complaint by his former wife in 2000 in Wayne County Circuit Court. In the court filing, his former wife wrote a hand-written letter to the court which said: "He has hit me before throughout our marriage and tries to control me. The last incident was June 16th 2000 at his employment he grabbed me by the throat and knocked me to the floor then yelled for me to get up."
