Promotional giveaways are a baseball tradition, and added incentives are particularly prudent for Detroit's reshuffling team this season.

"The Tigers are beefing up their swag game in anticipation of a season with low expectations for a young team embarking on a rebuild," Bill Shea notes at Crain's Detroit Business.

There are 23 giveaways planned at Comerica Park from April 6 through Sept. 21. . . . This year's batch of freebies includes hats galore — trapper hats, floppy hats and patriotic hats — as well as the traditional, perhaps less exciting beer koozies and magnetic schedules.

Other items likely to produce lines outside the gate include a Miguel Cabrera bobblehead picture frame, Tigers travel mug, a carry-on bag and a tote bag.

These keepsakes also are on the list of Comerica Park promotions, as are logo caps from a dozen Michigan colleges plus the University of Windsor:

  • A "Game of Thrones" bobblehead of manager Ron Gardenhire (right) at an April 17 evening game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, when "fans are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character." Theme event packages include the limited-edition figurine.
  • Star Wars Night package May 4 (Saturday twilight game versus the Kansas City Royals), with the Detroit Tigers/BB-8 beanie shown above.
  • Detroit Fire Departtment T-shirt on Firefighters Night, a May 15 night game ahainst the Houston Astros. Each package includes a game ticket, a Detroit Tigers Firefighters T-shirt and a donation to the Great Lakes Burn Camp.
  • Italian Heritage Night shirt with package purchases for an Aug. 27 night game against the Cleveland Indians.
