Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson admits on his hour-long Netflix special that he was on Ketamine -- a short-acting anesthetic that can cause hallucinations -- at Aretha Franklin's funeral at Greater Grace Temple on W. 7 Mile Road in Detroit in August 2018.

“I was on a drug for the past two and half, three years called Ketamine. What a time,” he says in the special, according to the Independent.

“It’s embarrassing when you’re not on ketamine anymore, though… I’m embarrassed,” Davidson, 30, said. “I was out and about like that. That’s not cool, you know? I was at funerals like that. That’s fucked up, right? I was at Aretha Franklin’s funeral like that. Yeah, I have to live with that. You know what I mean? She’ll never know, but still, that’s not the point. You know what I mean?”

He continues, “If she was there, she would probably be like, ‘Hey, who are you? And what the fuck are you doing at my funeral?’ It’s embarrassing. I’m so high, I thought it would be a good idea to go up to her family and go, ‘Hey, I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-T…S.”

Davidson showed up to the funeral with his then-fiancée singer Ariana Grande, who performed a song at the service, Independent reports. They split up shortly after.

The Drug Enforcement Administration describes the drug this way:

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that has some hallucinogenic effects. It distorts perceptions of sight and sound and makes the user feel disconnected and not in control. It is an injectable, short-acting anesthetic for use in humans and animals. It is referred to as a “dissociative anesthetic” because it makes patients feel detached from their pain and environment.

Ketamine can induce a state of sedation (feeling calm and relaxed), immobility, relief from pain, and amnesia (no memory of events while under the influence of the drug).
