Gilbert Maddox was a broadcaster, educator and historian, and is best known to many Detroiters as the host and producer of "Profiles in Black" -- an interview show on Channel 4 in Detroit during the 1970s that showcased African Americans from Joe Louis to basketball star Dave Bing..
Maddox, 82, died Saturday of pancreatic cancer at his Washington, D.C., home, according to an obituary in the Free Press by Patricia Montemurri.
Until a few years ago, he taught communications and was a department chair at Morgan State University in Maryland.
