Nearly $10 million in revenue was collected from medical marijuana permit applicants last year -- more than double the cost of running the program, says an Associated Press dispatch from Lansing.
A medical marijuana application costs $100. Dispensers who grow marijuana for people also pay a fee.
Medical marijuana was legalized by voter passage of a statewide ballot proposal in November 2008.
The new report covers the budget year ending last Sept. 30.
