Family, Friends Gather At Service For Jennifer Scavone, Slain on I-75

February 15, 2013, 8:53 PM

A week after her last Bouzouki Lounge shift in Greektown, Jennifer Ann Scavone was honored as a bight spirit who enriched many lives.

Family members, friends, neighbors and workmates attended her funeral Saturday morning in Sterling Heights.

Scavone, a 32-year-old mother with four sons, was shot multiple times Feb. 9 while driving home from Detroit to Sterling Heights on I-75. Michigan State Police detectives are reviewing subpoenaed cell phone records and other evidence, says Lt. Michael Shaw. He told the Macomb Daily last week:

“We're following some good leads. . . . We don't want to make any mistakes and take a chance on losing the case because we rushed into something."

Mourners include 39-year-old fiancé Keven Finley of Eastpointe, parents Joanne and Arthur Scavone of Fraser, grandmother Margaret Scavone of Fraser, and two brothers -- Michael of Warren and Steven of St. Clair Shores.

More than five dozen people post tributes and condolences at a memorial page created by the funeral home, Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons. "Her smile was absolutely amazing, as were her personality and the way she cared for and raised her children," Jomarie Leone of St. Clair Shores wrote Friday.

Jennifer Scavone posted this picture with Keven Finley on Feb. 7, two days before her Detroit murder.

Scavone and Finley had planned to move into a Sterling Heights home. Next-door neighbor Pam Burns added a poignant note to the online guest book Friday evening:

"We told Jenny and Keven repeatedly how thrilled we and the other neighbors were to have them move into our sub and we welcomed them with open arms. Jenny was so totally happy with their new home and always said how lucky they were to find it. She showed what a great Mom she was by the way her kids acted - polite, respectful and a real pleasure."

Scavone Event TixA bowling benefit, silent auction and raffles to help the family with expenses will be Feb. 22 at AMF Rose Bowl Lanes in Roseville, starting at 8 p.m. Details are at this Facebook event page
