Monday: Janis Singler, whose son Andrew was killed early Saturday, treasures memories of his holiday homecoming visit to Rochester last Christmas season.

She recalls vignettes of him sharing laughter with friends and his three brothers, writes student reporter Darcie Moran in The State News campus paper, who spoke with the grieving parent by phone.

"You could count on him to make everybody laugh and to tell a good story," Janis Singler said while surrounded by family Sunday. "He was loved by all. He was very considerate. He would become friends with anyone.

"There will be a hole in our family. So many people have lost a good friend. "

In addition to his parents and brothers, Singler is survived by a sister, two sisters-in-laws, three nephews, one niece and hundreds of friends, his mother told Moran, who also spoke with two MSU friends.
