Update: 3-Alarm Fire Destroys Buena Sala Apartments, One Of Detroit's Notable Ruins

April 13, 2013, 9:53 PM

The Buena Sala apartments on LaSalle Boulevard burned Saturday morning in a three-alam fire and the building was promptly demolished.

The Moorish-style building was a classic example of the artistry that went into many Detroit structures during the city's peak growth before the Depression.

Steve Neavling of Motor City Muckraker posted this video of the Buena Sala's demolition Saturday, which took place while the building smoldered.

In recent years, the abandoned Buena Sala on the near west side was put up for sale at least twice on eBbay. Its story was chronicled by some of Detroit's dedicated city-watchers:

Lowell Boileau has photos of the Buena Sala and the names of its tenants from 1940 here.
