Normally the Opening of a Meijer Store Would Be No Big Deal

July 11, 2013, 6:09 AM

Normally the opening of a store like Meijer may not be something to get all that excited about.  It's a nice store, but let's face it, it's nothing all that mind-blowing.

But we're talking about Detroit, a city that has a dearth of shopping options. So what, Meijer stores generally get weirder the later in the day you shop there. It's still something to make a big stink about.

The 215,000-square-foot at 8 Mile Road and Woodward is finally set to open July 25, Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business reports. It's Meijer's first in the city.

It will employ about 400 full- and part-time workers,  and will anchor the $72-million Gateway Marketplace retail center, which is about 95 percent pre-leased, Crain's reports.

Pinho lists other tenants and opening dates at the link below.
