It would seem being press secretary for the mayor of Detroit wouldn't be all that much fun these days, particularly with an emergency manager and the city being flat out broke.

That being said, after less than a year, Mayor Dave Bing's press secretary Anthony Neely announced late Thursday afternoon that he was resigning, effective Friday.

In a statement, he said:

I am launching a publishing company, Neely Media Group LLC; marketing a new book I have coauthored, and completing another by fall.  The Activist Entrepreneur, an autobiography by Walt Douglas, Avis Ford chairman and former president of New Detroit Inc., is the first book published by my company.

I have been honored to serve as Press Secretary for nearly 10 months -- a period that certainly involved no shortage of Detroit-based news.  I appreciate the opportunity Mayor Bing and Chief Communications Officer Bob Warfield gave me, and I enjoyed my work with the media.  Thanks to those of you who helped make my experience memorable.

He asked that media members now contact newly named Assistant Press Secretary Linda Vinyard.
