WDIV Traffic Reporter Ashlee Baracy Outwits Fake Cop In Harrowing Freeway Encounter

August 15, 2013, 6:18 PM

WDIV's traffic reporter Ashlee Baracy had a scary encounter early Thursday with someone  who she suspects was a fake cop.

In a report on her station's newscasts, Baracy told reporter Hank Winchester that she was driving eastbound on I-96  near W. Warren in Detroit when a dark, late 1990s model car -- possibly a Grand Prix or a Chevy Impala -- came  from behind her and "started pacing with me. " She said she saw flashing lights but "I realized it didn't really look like a cop car."

So she says she kept driving, thinking: "If this is a real police officer he would understand my concern and he can follow me 'til we get to Local 4 and I have a security guard present."

Once she arrived at the station, she called police and gave a detailed report of what transpired.

In Winchester's report, he said there have been numerous instances of fake cops trying to pull over motorists.
